HOW IS CHUCKTOWN CHARLEY DIFFERENT FROM OTHER BOARDING FACILITIES?

We provide onsite outdoor facilities for your dog to run leash-free. Many facilities are in warehouse complexes, but we own our own land – almost three acres of it. We are Charleston’s only activity-based facility. Every dog staying with us is on a customized activity package that suits their needs. We feel that dogs are happiest when receiving lots of activities and personal attention. Keeping the dogs on a routine also helps them to adjust quicker and prevents forming bad habits. We are also the only facility that has two full-time dog behaviorists on staff.

WHAT VACCINATIONS DO YOU REQUIRE?

WHEN CAN I DROP OFF OR PICK UP MY DOG?

We are open for clients to drop off or pick up their dog(s) Sunday – Saturday 8:00 am – 10:00 am and 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Extended pick up and drop off hours are available to daycare clients by appointment.

DO I NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION?

We are a small boutique pet retreat with limited space. We recommend booking reservations well in advance, especially for holiday lodging.

WHY DOES MY DOG NEED A NAP DURING DAYCARE OR AN OVERNIGHT STAY?

We have a required naptime between 12:00pm and 2:00pm daily. During this nap time, there are no tours and no staff going in and out of the boarding building. The environment remains calm, so the pets in our care get the restorative sleep they need. Just like children who cannot calm down for a nap, many dogs are the same. The idea of cageless boarding and dog daycare has become popular recently. Many dogs can handle that kind of atmosphere, but many cannot. Super social dogs cannot rest when activity is happening, and may get cranky and overtired.

We strive at all times to keep your dog safe and in a balanced state of mind. We find that constant movement and overexcited play can often lead to fights. Playing is good. But, too much play or activity that keeps the dog too excited is not a good idea for most dogs. You would be amazed at how happy the dogs are to go into their comfy rooms and take a nap. They look forward to and let us know that it’s naptime!

DO YOU ACCEPT DOGS THAT ARE NOT SPAYED OR NEUTERED?

Yes. We are careful to separate the males and females, and ask the owners to sign a separate waiver. If your intact male has a tendency to mark everything, we may charge an “excessive marking” fee of $25/day. Besides the safety issues, a female in heat puts out hormones that can cause undo stress for unneutered males while they are boarding. For this reason, we do not allow females in heat to board.

DO YOU ACCEPT ALL DOG BREEDS?

Yes. All dogs will go through our three-hour temperament evaluation. During the evaluation, we will find out what activity package will suit them best. It is recommended to set up this evaluation prior to boarding.

WHAT IF I DO NOT WANT MY DOG IN GROUP PLAY?

We can handle that! As a boutique facility, we are able to cater to your pet’s individual needs. We have special packages designed for more one-on-one time.

WHAT WILL I NEED TO BRING FOR AN OVERNIGHT STAY?

Food: We encourage our dog boarding guests to remain on their own food. It lowers their GI stress levels and keeps their digestion regular. Please bring in a resealable container, marked with your dog’s name. For sanitary purposes, we are unable to accept dog food bags.
If you forget to bring your dog’s food, we will provide our grain-free house food.
Medications: For your pet’s safety, all medications must be in the original container. Please mark them with your pet’s name and the dosage should also be clear.

CAN I BRING MY DOG’S TOYS OR BEDDING?

As a small boutique facility, with limited storage space, we ask that you keep bedding and toys at home. We provide comfy bedding and blankets. We have plenty of enrichment toys to keep your pets happy and entertained during their stay!

WHAT IF MY DOG GETS INJURED OR SICK?

If your dog is sick or injured during their stay, we will contact you about the situation. If we are unable to reach you and feel your pet needs veterinary attention, we will first try to get them to their regular veterinarian. If we are unable to get them to their regular veterinarian, we will take them to the closest veterinarian of our choosing for treatment.

DO YOU CARE FOR GERIATRIC AND OTHER DOGS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS?

We provide care for dogs of all ages and with all manner of special needs. Our facility is a boutique size for a reason. We are able to give the most attention and care to all our dog boarding guests.

CAN I TOUR ANYTIME OR WHEN I DROP MY PET OFF?

Tours of our dog boarding facility are given by appointment only. As a small pet retreat, every area of our facility is in constant use. For our dog boarding guests’ safety, all dogs are back in their rooms during tours. We are more than happy to show you around Chucktown Charley, but tours do disrupt the normal routines. For this reason, we ask that you be on time for your tour. A delay of fifteen minutes or more may result in a rescheduled tour.
